The Cook Out 400 name resonated with another race sponsored by Cook Out, which is held at Martinsville Speedway. However, the racing strategy and venues are entirely different. The Cook Out 400 race will effectively kick off the end of NASCAR Regular Season. The Chase for Cup Series will start after the Regular Season Champion has been crowned. The Cook Out 400 race will feature tire-strategy choices during the 2024 season.

The Cook Out 400 race has been the last race before the NASCAR playoffs started numerous times in the sport’s history. The race track is an intermediate track but it races like a short track. The race was called the Federated Auto Parts 400 until 2023. Cook Out Restaurants took up the title sponsorship of the race in 2023. Kyle Larson was the lucky driver to kiss the yard of bricks before the Cook Out 400 race. He went on to dominate the final stage of the race claiming the coveted “Crown Jewel'' race win.

Cook Out 400 History

The Cook Out 400 race was first held in the 1958 season of the Cup Series. It was known as the Richmond 200 and was a 200 lap race running for 100 miles. Speedy Thompson won the race. The previous Cook Out 400 during the 2023 season was won by Chris Buescher for RFK Racing. The Cook Out 400 has given NASCAR one of the biggest controversies of its history, known as the “Spingate”.

During the 2013 iteration of the race, team orders were implemented to intentionally spin out Clint Bowyer. This led to a race restart which would help Martin Truex Jr. secure a spot in the NASCAR Cup Series Chase. Additionally, David Gilland was ordered to let Joey Logano pass in order to help him secure a spot in the Chase. NASCAR penalized the teams involved which led to Martin Truex Jr. getting kicked out from the Chase and Carl Edwards would later go on to win that year’s race.

Cook Out 400 2024 Schedule

The Cook Out 400 race at the Richmond Speedway will be a 400 lap race which goes on for 300 miles. It will be held on August 11, 2024. The main race will be scheduled from 6:00 PM ET on Sunday. The Qualifying session for the race will take place on Saturday from 5:35 PM ET. The race will be divided into three stages. The first stage will be of 80 laps and the second stage will be of 155 laps. The final and deciding stage will be 165 laps long.

Cook Out 400 2024 Venue

The Cook Out 400 race will take place at the Richmond Raceway. The track is located in Richmond, Virginia in the United States. It is often referred to by its nickname, “Strawberry Hill”. The track is 0.75 miles long and hosts two NASCAR Cup Series races. The oval has 14 degrees of baking in its turns, with 8 degrees of banking on the frontstretch and 2 degrees of banking on the backstretch. The Richmond Raceway has an asphalt surface. The fastest lap at the track was set in 2019. It was set by Kevin Harvick in his Ford Mustang GT.
