T20 World Cup 2024: New Zealand Squad

The BlackCaps have retained most of the squad that featured in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia two years ago.

Once again, the 2021 finalists will be led by their talismanic leader Kane Williamson. Dynamic opener Devon Conway has been added to the 15-member squad despite being ruled out of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a finger injury.

The batting unit is stacked with power hitters like Finn Allen, who played a key role in New Zealand beating Australia last time around, and dynamic middle-order batters Daryll Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, and Mark Chapman.

New sensation Rachin Ravindra has also been added to the T20 World Cup 2024. The left-handed batsman showcased his talent to the hilt at the ODI World Cup last year and would look to do the same in the Caribbean and the United States of America (USA) this June.

Apart from his batting, Ravindra’s left-arm orthodox could also come in handy on slow wickets of the Caribbean islands. Veteran all-rounder James Neesham and Michael Bracewell, who missed out on the 2023 World Cup due to an injury have also been added to the touring party.

The fast-bowling department boasts of tried-and-tested names in the form of Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, and Matt Henry.

Similarly, the spin arena will be led by the veteran duo of Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner.

Here’s what BlackCaps head coach said after the squad announcement for T20 World Cup 2024:

“I'd like to congratulate everyone named today. It’s a special time representing your country at a world tournament. We expect the venues in the West Indies to offer quite varied conditions, and feel we’ve selected a squad with the scope to adapt to those conditions.’’

New Zealand is locked in Group C alongside Afghanistan, Uganda, Papua New Guinea, and two-time world champions, West Indies.

The Kane Williamson-led unit will kickstart its T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Afghanistan at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Saturday, June 08.
