Carson Wentz is a free-agent quarterback who has played in the NFL for 7 seasons mostly with the Philadelphia Eagles. Wentz was at one point in time on the cusp of winning the NFL MVP with his stellar performances. However, things have quickly taken a turn for the worse in his case. His career has come to a point where post his departure from the Eagles, he has played just one season with the Indianapolis Colts and one more with the Washington Commanders.

Carson Wentz was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on December 30, 1992. When Carson was just three years old, the family shifted to North Dakota and that is where he was brought up. Attending Century High School in Bismarck, Carson played basketball and baseball along with football. On the football team, Wentz not only played quarterback but was also a defensive back. Astonishingly, he graduated from high school as the valedictorian of his class. An interesting aspect of Carson is that he was only 5 feet 8 inches when he was a freshman in high school, but by the time he was a senior, he had grown to 6 feet 5 inches.

If we take a look at his college career, it shows that Wentz took time to rise the ranks, but when he did he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He went to North Dakota State University where he played for the Bison football team. As he couldn’t get the starting spot on the team, Wentz redshirted his freshman and sophomore seasons with the starting role coming finally in his junior year. Making good of the opportunity presented to him, Wentz led his team to a 15-1 record that year. The Bison also won the national championship game that season. Wentz continued his great run the following season as well and once again he led the team to another national championship.

Even though he had had a couple of good seasons in college, the fact remained that he wasn’t able to earn the starting spot for three years and he was considered a mid-first-round selection. Things took a turn after the 2016 NFL Combine, Wentz’s Pro Day and his Wonderlic test as he put in some exceptional performances on the field while scoring the highest 40/50 on the Wonderlic. In the end, the Eagles moved up to the second spot in the 2016 NFL Draft to take him as their future quarterback.

Carson Wentz’s NFL Journey

Following the draft, Wentz was made the starter for the Eagles on an immediate basis. The franchise saw him as their permanent solution in the foreseeable future. The Eagles missed the playoffs in his rookie season as they went 7-9 and Wentz started all 16 games. However, the next season was a big turnaround as Wentz led the team to an 11-2 record in 13 games before tearing his ACL resulting in a season-ending injury. Fortunately for the Eagles, this great season continued to flourish and backup quarterback Nick Foles led the team to a commendable playoff run and the franchise’s first-ever Super Bowl win. This gave Carson his first and only ring to date.

Even though Wentz continued to have a couple more good years in Philadelphia, the team could not make deep runs in the postseason. In his last year with the Eagles, his performance started to fall as he had 15 interceptions and lost 4 fumbles as opposed to just 16 touchdowns. The degrading performance and increasing injuries led to his downfall and since then Wentz has bounced to two teams in two seasons and currently finds himself without a team.

Born in December 1992, in the city of Raleigh, North Carolina, Wentz moved to North Dakota with his family. It was here that he grew up and developed an interest in sports in general, but more so in football. Carson is the younger of two boys to parents Doug Wentz and Cathy Wentz (née Domres). His older brother is Zach Wentz. After his parents divorced, Doug Wentz remarried and Carson also has a stepsister, Bailey.

Before transferring to MSU, Madison had enrolled in Ozark Christian University and after graduation, she returned there to take up a job in the admission office.
