Chetan Sakariya

Chetan Sakariya is an Indian Cricketer born on 28th February 1998 in the city of Bhavnagar, Gujarat. He is a left-arm fast bowler who can keep a check on the runs flow and also turn the momentum in his team’s favour with some quick wickets.

Hailing from Gujarat, Chetan Sakariya wowed the fans with his left-arm pace bowling in the domestic arena along with playing for Delhi Capitals in the IPL. He plays for the Saurashtra team in domestic cricket. He made his international debut for the India cricket team in July 2021.

Indian left-arm fast bowler Chetan Sakariya was born on the 28th of Feb 1998, and plays domestic cricket for Saurashtra. In July 2021, he made his debut for the Indian cricket team on the international front. He was signed by KKR in the 2024 IPL season

Chetan Sakariya Domestic Career

After playing U-19 cricket for Saurashtra, Chetan Sakariya represented the Saurashtra region in all formats at the senior level. He made his List-A debut against Baroda at Delhi on February 22, 2018. Although he was a bit expensive in that game, Chetan picked up the wickets of Kedar Devdhar and Krunal Pandya on his List-A debut.

Later that year, Chetan Sakariya received his maiden first-class cap against Gujarat at Nadiad. Sakariya once again impressed everyone by taking a five-wicket haul on debut. He returned with figures of 5/83 in the first innings and followed that up with 1/71 in the second innings.

Finally, Chetan got a chance to represent Saurashtra in T20 cricket for the first time on February 21, 2019. He played his first T20 against Railways at Indore and took one wicket in his spell.

Thus far, Chetan has picked up 31 wickets in 18 T20 matches at an economy rate of 7.19. His best figures in this format are 5/11, while he also has a couple of five-wicket hauls in the first-class arena. Sakariya is yet to bring his ‘A’ game to the table in List-A cricket.

Chetan Sakariya bagged a contract worth 1.2 crores INR from the Rajasthan Royals Team at IPL Auction 2021. Sakariya received his first IPL cap on April 12, 2021, against the Punjab Kings. He picked up a three-wicket haul on his IPL debut by dismissing KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, and Jhye Richardson. He cemented his place in the playing XI with a solid performance on his debut in IPL 2021.

Soon after, Sakariya entered the field in his debut IPL encounter against Punjab Kings, taking three wickets of KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, and Jhye Richardson.

The next season, though, the team let go of the player before the big auction, at the moment when Delhi Capitals signed him in their pace attack. Nevertheless, with just two appearances throughout the season, 2023 proved to be a dismal season for the bowler. Chetan was signed by KKR in their championship winning 2024 season although he did not play a single match in the season

Chetan Sakariya Under-19 Career

Chetan Sakariya's professional cricketing career started in school, and he was soon chosen for the Saurashtra under-16 squad.

In the 2016–17 season, he was selected for the under-19 Cooch Behar trophy and took ten wickets for Saurashtra in the tournament. His exceptional performance in the Cooch Behar tournament earned him a spot at the MRF Pace Academy, where he impressed Glenn McGrath with his abilities throughout the trials. Sakariya was from a humble family and could not even buy spikes, but Sheldon Jackson gave him a pair at the Academy. In February 2018, the Saurashtra pacer made his List-A debut.

Sakariya is from the Gujarati village of Vartej, which is 15 miles from Bhavnagar. To make ends meet, his father, Kanji Sakariya, used to operate a tempo in Vartej. Vasha Sakariya, his mother, is a homemaker. Sakariya's brother committed suicide during Chetan's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021. Since Sakariya and his late brother were very close, the Rajasthan Royals presented him a jersey with the initials "R.K." of their late brother embroidered on it.
