In 2008, Johnson attended Kilgore College in Texas for one year where he played quarterback and tight end on the Kilgore Rangers’ football team. He didn’t have the best year for the team under center, throwing only 7 touchdowns and 3 interceptions while amassing just over 500 passing yards.
