Houston Texans Roster Roster
The Houston Texans are a professional American football team based in Houston, Texas, competing in the NFL in its AFC South division. After witnessing generational QBs in Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck terrorize them for around two decades in the division, Texans fans can relish that for at least the next decade and a half, it would be three other fanbases in the AFC South that would have to go through the same turmoil. That’s how good a QB play C.J. Stroud showcased in his 2023 ROTY campaign, by leading them to the postseason after the team finished second last in the whole league in 2022.
The second-year phenom, who is now top-5 in MVP odds on various betting sites, will be looking to ascend his game even further now that he has got a new playmaker in Stefon Diggs to go alongside Tank Dell and Nico Collins. If bringing in Diggs was not enough sign of going all in, Houston also got Joe Mixon to spearhead their ground attack while simultaneously locking up Schultz for three more years at tight end position. Even though Texans gave up 47 sacks in 2023 (11th highest in the league according to Statmuse), five starters from last season in Tunsil, Scruggs, Mason, Howard and Green are all returning to protect their franchise QB once again.
With so much firepower on the offense, DeMeco Ryans was not going to let his side of the ball play second fiddle to them. Nick Caserio revamped the whole defensive line by acquiring Hunter and Autry to pair them up with 2023 1st-round pick Anderson Jr. However, Texans might not be getting the services of Autry for the first six games due to him getting suspended for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy. Al-Shaair and Harris will be patrolling the middle of the field while former first-round pick in Okudah and 2024 second-round pick Lassiter compete for the outside cornerback spot opposite Stingley. Ward and Pitre round out the Texans' secondary unit as a free safety and strong safety respectively.
It was surprising to see DeMeco Ryans and the Texans' front office able to keep Bobby Slowik (OC) after the tremendous work he did with Stroud last season. No major changes have taken place on the coaching staff going into Year 2 of Ryans.
