"It was pretty laid back" - Davis Thompson shares his experience in the 'Trophy House' that may have led to his John Deere Classic win

On Sunday, July 7, Davis Thompson fired a 7-under 64 in the final round of the John Deere Classic to clinch his maiden PGA Tour victory. He finished with a total of 28-under, creating a new tournament record. Besides, he became the third successive winner from the same address, which is now referred to as the 'Trophy House'.

Two years ago, JT Poston resided at the 'Trophy House' during his week at TPC Deere Run. The following year, Sepp Straka rented the same property and went on to win the title. This year, Thompson, along with JT Poston, Denny McCarthy, Patton Kizzire, Ben Kohles, and Greyson Sigg, shared the same house.

For the third straight year, the winner emerged from this address. What's even more fascinating is that Davis Thompson stayed in the same room where Straka stayed last year. Speaking at the winner's press conference, the 25-year-old golfer reflected on this coincidence. He said:

"Crazy, all JT and two years ago and then Sepp had that unbelievable final round last year and I stayed in or Sepp didn't stay there this year. But I stayed in Sep's room this year. So I don't know me and him may be fighting for that room next year. But it was just pretty laid-back, this guy's hanging out, watching sports, playing cards, it was a really fun week."

He also spoke about living in the Trophy House with five other players and how it helped him to not overthink ahead of the final round.

"I think staying in a hotel room by myself I probably would have let my mind wander a lot," he added. "And my mind did wander but just hanging out with those guys last night and just doing all our laundry and watching sports, it kept my mind off of it."
