Tulsa Golden Hurricane Football Team History
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team, originally known as Henry Kendall College, began in 1895 with a win against the Bacone Indians. After moving to Tulsa in 1907, the team grew steadily. Early successes included an undefeated 1916 season, outscoring opponents 566-40. Coach Francis Schmidt led the team to many high-scoring victories, including a 152-0 win over Oklahoma Baptist. A former player, he played center and guard for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, earning a scholarship after two seasons as a walk-on.
