What's the story?

Many praised this week's episode of WWE RAW primarily because of Roman Reigns and Batista returning to action. Little did they know that a major segment on RAW had to be changed because of an injury.

NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa is currently nursing a severe neck injury. And because of the same, a match had to be scrapped during the show.

In case you didn't know...

Tommaso Ciampa is the current NXT Champion and is scheduled to compete in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, teaming up with Johnny Gargano. The two men formed an uneasy alliance on NXT this past week when it became clear that Gargano could not win without Ciampa's assistance.

On the main roster, the two men have seemed to be on the same page. They were called up to RAW by Triple H recently, along with Ricochet and Aleister Black.

Unfortunately, this injury may have played spoilsport with regard to the plans that WWE had for them.

The heart of the matter

So, PWInsider broke the news that Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano were supposed to take on Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins, Aleister Black and Ricochet and another team before Ciampa's injury woes became serious. The Revival was supposed to be at ringside, keeping an eye on the ongoing proceedings.

But then when the verdict was made that Ciampa could not compete, the match was changed to The Revival vs. Aleister Black and Ricochet. As we saw in the match, the babyfaces scored a victory over the reigning Tag Team Champions. Ciampa is also not on the road this weekend, according to the same report.

What's next?

A lot of plans in NXT could go awry because of Ciampa's injury. The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament is one such plan. And so are the plans for the NXT Championship.
