WWE to finally bring Stone Cold Steve Austin's 23-year-old record to an end? Exploring Royal Rumble possibility

Royal Rumble 2024 is almost upon us, and sure enough, the match card has started to take shape! The premium live event will set the tone for the year since the winners of the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches stand a chance to snare the titles off the current champions.

Interestingly, Stone Cold Steve Austin holds a record that hasn’t been broken for over two decades. He’s the only superstar to have won the men’s match thrice. He won it in 1997, 1998, and 2001. Could the 59-year-old's record be broken by another superstar this time around?

All two-time winners are now retired, with the exception of Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar, and John Cena. Randy Orton is already scheduled for a Fatal 4-Way against Roman Reigns, John Cena has returned to Hollywood following the end of the writers’ strike, and Brock Lesnar will most likely not end up as the winner of the men’s match if he enters it.

At this current stage, putting The Beast in a title storyline just doesn’t add up, and Triple H will probably avoid it. There you have it, Steve Austin can breathe a sigh of relief!

Roman Reigns put himself in trouble ahead of Royal Rumble 2024

At New Year’s Revolution, Roman Reigns interfered in the triple threat match between Randy Orton, LA Knight, and AJ Styles. Had he not made an appearance, the match would have ended with one winner who would have gone on to face Reigns at Royal Rumble 2024.

However, The Bloodline ambushing all three superstars led to General Manager Nick Aldis taking a harsh decision against the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. He informed Paul Heyman that Roman Reigns would now be in a Fatal 4-Way with all three men.

It is pertinent to note that the winner of a Fatal 4-Way does not win via pinfall or submission of solely the champion. He can win via pinfall or submission of any of the other three opponents. This decreases Reigns' chance of winning the match drastically!
