The Rock vs. Roman Reigns is once again the talk of the town after the recent release of WWE's official WrestleMania XL Behind the Curtain documentary on YouTube. This documentary video unveiled many hidden secrets about this year's Showcase of the Immortals. One of the things WWE finally confirmed was when the first discussion about Roman Reigns vs. The Rock at WrestleMania happened.
In Behind the Curtains, The Final Boss revealed that in December 2021, Nick Khan and he had their first conversation about Reigns vs. Rock at The Show of Shows. On that night, The People's Champion had dinner with Nick and his sister Nahnatchka Khan. They initially shared their childhood memories in Hawaii. However, later talked about what the upcoming 'Mania would look like with the idea of Rock and Roman in the biggest main event of all time.
Meanwhile, this didn't come to fruition for WrestleMania 39, and they decided to plan the match for WrestleMania 40, which took place this year.
The Final Boss also revealed that the TKO merger with WWE has strengthened the chances of this dream match. This is especially due to the CEO of TKO, Ari Emanuel, who has been a very close business partner of The Rock for over 20 years.
Post-merger, Ari, Nick, and Dwayne Johnson discussed how The Final Boss could bring value to the company, leading to The Rock teasing his match against Reigns on The Pat McAfee Show. Later, he makes an appearance on the December 2023 episode of SmackDown and Day 1 RAW 2024 as part of plans.
Additionally, The People's Champion revealed that his match against Roman at a future WrestleMania was teased in his show Young Rock. Notably, this series is based on the life of Johnson, and Nahnatchka Khan is one of its creators.
