Roman Reigns, real name Leati Joseph 'Joe' Anoaʻi on May 25, 1985, is an American professional wrestler and a former American football player. Widely considered to be one of the greatest wrestlers in the world at the moment, Reigns has been wrestling with WWE since 2010. He is a highly decorated wrestler and is a five-time WWE World Champion, including the highly coveted 1316-day Universal Championship title run.

He is a Grand Slam Champion in WWE, has won the Royal Rumble match, and has headlined WrestleMania nine times. No wrestler has main-evented The Grandest Stage more than Roman Reigns. He is the only superstar to defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania besides Brock Lesnar. Further, his Universal title reign is the longest world title reign in WWE since 1988.

Who is the father of Roman Reigns?

Sika Anoa'i is the father of Roman Reigns. His real name is Pola’ivao Leati Sika Amituana'i Anoa'i. Sika was a professional wrestler himself, who teamed up with Afa Anoa'i as a member of the Wild Samoans. He was born on April 5, 1945, and unfortunately passed away on June 25, 2024. Patricia Hooker was his wife and the mother of Roman Reigns. The couple had four children.

Roman Reigns' Father Death and Legacy

Roman Reigns' father Sika Anoa'i passed away on June 25, 2024, at the age of 79. No cause or place of death was revealed of Sika's demise. Just two months after his unfortunate death, his brother and long-time tag team partner Afa Anoa'i also passed away. While Sika and Afa are no more, their legacy as legends and WWE Hall of Famers will always subsist. Further, their Anoa'i wrestling family continues to dominate WWE in members such as Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa, The Usos, Jacob Fatu, and more.

Leati Sika Amituana'i Anoa'i’s Professional Wrestling Career

Early Career (1973-1980)

Anoa'i was prepared as a grappler by his siblings Afa and Kurt Von Steiger, appearing in 1973 in Rush Wrestling as "Sika." Referring to themselves as "The Wild Samoans," the siblings acquired a reputation because of their huge, wild afros, sarongs, and propensities for wrestling shoeless and eating crude fish in the ring.

All through the 1970s, The Wild Samoans showed up in advancements including Big Time Wrestling, the Continental Wrestling Association, Gulf Coast Championship Wrestling, NWA All-Star Wrestling, NWA Mid-America, Stampede Wrestling, and the World Wrestling Council, winning different tag team championships.

World Wrestling Federation (1983)

In January 1980, The Wild Samoans appeared on the planet Wrestling League with Lou Albano as their supervisor, rapidly laying down a good foundation for themselves as a power in the tag team division through a progression of definitive triumphs. As well as contending in the label division, the siblings wrestled as singles, with Anoa'i fruitlessly testing Sway Backlund for the WWF Title in Walk 1980.

On April 12, 1980, The Wild Samoans crushed Ivan Putski and Tito Santana to win the WWF World Label Group Title. Their rule went on until August 9, 1980, when they lost to Backlund and Pedro Spirits at the Confrontation at Shea. As Backlund was the then-WWF Champion, he and Spirits had to empty the title, and The Wild Samoans recaptured it on the September 9, 1980, episode of WWF Title Wrestling, overcoming Tony Garea and Rene Goulet in the finals of a competition. Their subsequent rule went on until November 8, 1980, when they lost to Garea and Rick Martel. The Wild Samoans left the WWF in December 1980.

New Japan Pro Wrestling

From January to February 1981, The Wild Samoans visited Japan with New Japan Favorable to Wrestling, proceeding as "The Samoan #1" (Afa) and "The Samoan #2" (Sika), separately. They contended in the New Year's Golden Series, more than once confronting Antonio Inoki and Seiji Sakaguchi. The Wild Samoans made a second visit to Japan in November and December 1981, contending in the Madison Square Garden Tag League.

Mid-South Wrestling (1981-1982)

In April 1981, The Wild Samoans appeared in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma-based promotion Mid-South Wrestling. They were at first overseen by Ernie Ladd prior to deceiving him to conform to Skandor Akbar. The Wild Samoans held the Mid-South Tag Team Title on three occasions between June 1981 and May 1982, quarreling with Junkyard Dog and his accomplices. They left the advancement in May 1982.

Georgia Championship Wrestling (1982)

In Walk 1982, The Wild Samoans started going after the Atlanta, Georgia-based advancement of Georgia Title Wrestling, where they were overseen by Sonny King. In August 1982, they crushed The Impressive Freebirds to win the NWA Tag Team Title. They held the title for quite a long time, clearing it in December 1982 after passing on the advancement to get back to the WWF.

Return to WWF (1983-1985)

The Wild Samoans got back to the WWF in January 1983, taking on Lou Albano as their director. They won the WWF World Tag Team Title for the third and last time on Walk 8, 1983, overcoming Boss Jay Strongbow and Jay Strongbow. During their rule, Anoa'i supported a physical issue, with his nephew Samu filling in for him as a few title guards.

The Wild Samoans' rule ended on November 15, 1983, when they lost to Soul Watch (Rocky Johnson and Tony Atlas) after Albano coincidentally hit Afa with a seat. In the wake of their departure from Albano, the Wild Samoans tested Soul Patrol on a few occasions but couldn't recapture the title. In April 1984, Anoa'i fruitlessly tested Hogan for the WWF title as one of Hogan's earliest title guards. In mid-1984, The Wild Samoans turned faces and started an extended fight with The North-South Association (Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch). Yet again, they left the WWF in January 1985.

Various Promotions (1985-1986)

The Wild Samoans showed up with numerous various advancements in 1985 and 1986, among them the American Wrestling Association, Jim Crockett Advancements, and International Championship Wrestling.

Second Return to WWF (1986-1988)

In March 1987, Anoa'i framed a label group with Kamala, conforming to Kamala's chief, Mr. Fuji, and "handler," Kim Chee. The couple wrestled a progression of matches against the Can-Am Association and participated in a few competitions. The group was broken up in August 1987 when Kamala left the WWF. In September 1987, Anoa'i competed in the King of the Ring competition, losing in the primary round to S. D. Jones.

On October 3, 1987, Saturday Night's Headliner XII (recorded September 23, 1987), Anoa'i fruitlessly tested WWF Champion Hulk Hogan in the headliner. He proceeded to wrestle a progression of matches against Bam Bam Bigelow and, afterward, against Jake Roberts. At the Slammy Awards function on December 16, 1987, the "Melody of the Year" classification finished with no champ after Anoa'i ate the envelope containing the victor's name.

In mid-1988, Anoa'i's ordinary rivals included Lanny Poffo, George Steele, and Hillbilly Jim. On Walk 27, 1988, he showed up on his most memorable compensation per-view, contending in a fight imperial at WrestleMania IV. Yet again, Anoa'i left the WWF following the session.

Late Career (1988)

In the wake of leaving the WWF, Anoa'i wrestled a small bunch of matches on the free circuit. He formed a fleeting tag team with his nephew Kokina in the Mainland Wrestling Organization, where they were overseen by Alan Martin. He resigned soon thereafter.

Retirement (1988)

Following his retirement, Anoa'i stayed dynamic in wrestling. He prepared grapplers at the Wild Samoan Instructional Hub, an expert wrestling school run by Afa in Minneola, Florida. On August 15, 1997, the two men rejoined for one evening, cooperating with Disco Inferno, Gene Ligon, and the Hotshot as they crushed Ken Timbs, George Love, Jay Love, Gary Royal, and Kane Adams at the IWA Evening of the Legends in Kannapolis, North Carolina.

In 1999, he established XW 2000, an autonomous wrestling organization situated in Pensacola, Florida. On Walk 31, 2007, The Wild Samoans were drafted into the WWE Corridor of Distinction by Sika's child Matt and Afa's child Samu. The Wild Samoans showed up at Damnation in a Cell (2020) to observe Roman Reigns's victory.
