What’s the story?

Earlier today, during NJPW and Ring of Honor’s co-produced Honor Rising event, Bullet Club members Matt and Nick Jackson—collectively known as the Young Bucks—finally declared themselves as the newest addition to NJPW’s Heavyweight Tag Team division.

In case you didn’t know…

The Young Bucks made their debut for New Japan Pro Wrestling back in 2013 when they aligned themselves with the legendary Japanese faction, the Bullet Club, which was then led by Prince Devitt aka Finn Balor.

Currently viewed as one of the best tag teams on the planet, over the past few years, The Bucks have certainly proved themselves as one of the standout tag teams in the entire world. The Jackson brothers have won tag team gold alongside each other for various promotions such as Pro Wrestling Guerilla, Ring of Honor, and New Japan Pro Wrestling, where they have won the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Titles for a record seven times.

The heart of the matter

The 2018 NJPW/ROH Honor Rising event ended in the best way possible as the duo of Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi, The Golden Lovers, finally won their first match back together as a tag team as they defeated the team of Cody Rhodes and Marty Scurll earlier today at the Korakuen Hall.

However, following Omega and Ibushi’s win, “The Cleaner” got hold of a microphone and made a bold statement by claiming that he and Ibushi are indeed the best tag team on the planet when the two men were interrupted by Omega’s Bullet Club stablemates, Matt and Nick Jackson. Matt Jackson said that he and his brother Nick did not have a problem with The Golden Lovers until they claimed themselves to be “the best tag team in the world” as he further claimed that it is The Young Bucks who are rather “the best tag team in the world”. Matt lastly added that The Bucks are now moving up to Heavyweight Tag Team Division in NJPW and eventually teased a dream match against the Golden Lovers, in the near future.

What’s next?

It looks like The Young Bucks and Golden Lovers could possibly square off in a dream match later this year, quite possibly at NJPW’s Strong Style Evolved pay-per-view at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California.

Author’s Take

Personally, I think it was about time for The Young Bucks to move up to NJPW’s Heavyweight Division after spending almost five years in the Junior Tag Division. And, also with this move, we are likely to witness some dream matches involving The Bucks and some of the best Heavyweight Tag Teams in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
