Bill Goldberg was one of WCW's marquee names in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In a recent interview, former WCW and WWE writer Vince Russo claimed the wrestling legend once hurt him on purpose.

On September 25, 2000, Russo faced Booker T in a Caged Heat match on Nitro. The finish saw Goldberg spear Russo through the cage, meaning the then-WCW writer escaped the structure first. As a result, he won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship from Booker T.

In an interview on Rewind Recap Relive, Russo recalled how former WCW star Konnan warned him he might get hurt that night:

"Prior to that incident, Bill Goldberg told Konnan, 'I am going to F him up,' and Konnan will tell you that himself. And, bro, one thing about Konnan is you talk about straight shooters, Konnan don't lie, and Konnan's not afraid to say anything." [0:40 – 1:02]

Russo's WCW World Heavyweight Championship win was viewed as a controversial booking decision at the time. A week later, his villainous on-screen persona vacated the title because he no longer wanted to wrestle.

Another reason why Vince Russo thinks Bill Goldberg intentionally hurt him

During his match against Booker T, Vince Russo wore a football helmet because he was suffering from a concussion.

Russo told Goldberg before the match that their spear spot should take place in the direction of the entranceway to avoid colliding with the barricade. However, the WWE Hall of Famer allegedly ignored the instruction.

"When I look at what he told Konnan before the match and then I look at him driving me head-first directly into the barricade, bro, what am I supposed to think?" Russo added. "Like, come on, bro, let's be real and let's be honest. He meant to do that. He did it. That was the last concussion I ever had in WCW and I never got in the ring again [in WCW] after that. I was done." [1:41 – 2:16]

While Russo competed in three TNA matches in 2003, he only appeared on WCW television as an on-screen personality after the cage incident.
