It's quite common in wrestling promotions, such as WWE and other companies, where wrestlers date each other. Recently, NXT Women's North American Champion Kelani Jordan opened up about her relationship with Carmelo Hayes and detailed their first interaction.
It's no secret that WWE Superstars date each other, regardless of their brand or status in the Stamford-based promotion. Kelani Jordan and Carmelo Hayes have been in a relationship for a while, and they acknowledged it on social media a while back.
In an interview with The Wrestling Classic, the NXT Women's North American Champion opened up in detail about the beginning of their relationship and how the stars aligned for the two when they met at the performance center. She also stated Melo made the first move:
"So we were at the performance center, and I was a few months in. It felt like time stood still, and we were shaking hands, and I was greeting everyone. He was going around every single day shaking everyone's hands, but in that moment it felt like time stood still, and we both were just like staring at each other, and then we just walked away (...) Apparently, I think he told one of our coaches like, 'Wow, that girl is so beautiful' but I didn't know that at the time. Eventually, time passed, and he ended up messaging me, and that was it. What are Kelani Jordan and Carmelo Hayes doing in WWE?
Earlier this year, Kelani Jordan received her major break on WWE's developmental brand as she became the inaugural NXT Women's North American Champion. After winning the title in a Ladder match, she defended it successfully on a handful of occasions.
Elsewhere, Carmelo Hayes had a very successful run on the developmental brand. Apart from becoming the last Cruiserweight Champion, he captured the North American Championship, twice, and won the NXT Championship from Bron Breakker in 2023.
Lately, the new-generation power couple are on different brands as Hayes received his main roster call-up for WWE SmackDown in April 2024. He's currently feuding with Andrade on Friday Night SmackDown. Meanwhile, Kelani Jordan has been defending her title on NXT.
