Scott Steiner was among WCW's top stars when the company was sold to then-WWE Chairman Vince McMahon in 2001. In an exclusive interview, Big Poppa Pump gave his thoughts on why World Championship Wrestling did not continue.

The Rock's Seven Bucks Productions company recently collaborated with the Dark Side of the Ring producers to create the VICE TV show Who Killed WCW? The four-part docuseries explored the promotion's rise throughout the 1990s and its decline in the early 2000s.

Steiner told Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter that WCW's parent company, AOL Time Warner, decided to sell because executives did not care about wrestling:

"Anybody that says anything different don't know what the f**k they're talking about. You got a glimpse of some of it [on Who Killed WCW?]. It was like [former Turner Entertainment President] Brad Siegel, all the higher-ups." [From 01:32 – 01:42]

Scott Steiner added that WCW only survived before 2001 because the company's owner Ted Turner had enough executive power to keep it going:

"Trust me, when I first went in there in '87, '88, we heard right off the bat the only reason we got here is because Ted Turner liked wrestling. That was a known fact, and then we found out none of his executives wanted it. They were under him. The only thing that kept it was Ted. When AOL forced Ted out, he had no more power. The executives got what they want." [From 01:43 – 02:07]

Scott Steiner on wrestling returning to TNT

Between 1995 and 2001, WCW Monday Nitro aired on the American television channel TNT. After an absence of almost two decades, pro wrestling returned to the station when AEW premiered its weekly show Dynamite in 2019.

Scott Steiner believes AEW landed a contract with TNT because the same executives from 2001 are no longer in charge:

"Look where AEW's at right now. They're at the same station, just because the executives are not there no more." [From 02:12 – 02:20]

In the same interview, Steiner reacted to Sami Zayn defeating his nephew Bron Breakker at Money in the Bank.
