Roman Reigns has performed as a fan favorite since returning to WWE at SummerSlam on August 3. Legendary commentator and wrestler Jerry Lawler believes the SmackDown star is the "perfect" babyface to feud with the new version of The Bloodline.

On April 7, Reigns lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania XL. Following the event, Solo Sikoa unofficially replaced his cousin as The Bloodline's leader. The new Tribal Chief kicked Jimmy Uso and Paul Heyman out of the group and replaced them with Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, and Tonga Loa.

Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter, Lawler compared Reigns' return to the days when he was a top star in Memphis:

"Well, I think he's gonna be perfect. I think he'll be the perfect babyface against those guys. When you say, 'Oh, it's worked out perfect,' well, it's worked out perfect in wrestling. It's done it so many times. I know I've been in that same situation where you be a hot heel and then another heel comes along and they wanna see the old guy get rid of the young guy, and that's what has happened here. It's just classical wrestling stuff happening again." [10:11 – 10:57]

In the video above, Lawler also gave his honest thoughts on Cody Rhodes defeating Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Jerry Lawler on Memphis influencing Roman Reigns and other wrestlers

Before joining WWE as a commentator in 1992, Jerry Lawler made his name as one of Memphis Wrestling's marquee attractions.

Lawler revealed that someone in the wrestling business recently contacted him to say his Memphis ideas are still used in the modern-day product:

"Oh, yeah, without a doubt. Not long ago, I got an email from, I'm just gonna say his first name, I don't wanna give his whole name out, but his name is Mark. He texts me every now and then, and he says, 'Hey, I just want you to know we still go back and watch old Memphis stuff and get some new ideas every now and then.'" [11:14 – 11:41]

In the same interview, Lawler gave an update on his WWE status and health after suffering two strokes.
