Bret Hart has repeatedly blamed Bill Goldberg for causing him to suffer a career-ending injury in 1999. Matt Riddle, one of Goldberg's most vocal critics, recently gave his opinion on the real-life animosity between the former WCW rivals.

At Starrcade 1999, Hart received a mistimed kick to the head from Goldberg. The Hitman completed the match and continued wrestling for another three weeks before concussion issues forced him to retire.

Hart and Riddle have criticized Goldberg's in-ring style in recent years. However, speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter and host Dr. Chris Featherstone, Riddle made it clear that he thinks Hart should stop complaining:

"It's not a matter of intentions and, honestly, I think that's one of Bret's flaws. Because, honestly, I could hold a grudge against a lot of people. The s**t, sorry, the things people have said about me that are lies and everything else, and I just [shrugs] because what am I supposed to do? Complain? Get on my soapbox and preach about it? I don't really care. The cream always rises to the top. I'll just keep working hard and doing the right thing. That's it." [1:30 – 1:57]

What Bill Goldberg thinks about Bret Hart's criticism

Over the last two decades, Bret Hart has not been afraid to speak about Bill Goldberg's wrestling ability. In 2020, the Canadian said on his web series that his former co-worker was a "gorilla" and a "really reckless and dangerous guy to wrestle."

Goldberg recently stated on Insight with Chris Van Vliet that he does not care about Hart criticizing him. He also claimed to have once helped The Hitman get a job after his wrestling career ended.

Shortly before the Starrcade 1999 incident, Goldberg and Hart won the WCW World Tag Team Championship. The unlikely duo held the titles for six days before losing to Kevin Nash and Scott Hall on the December 13, 1999, episode of Nitro.
