A major WWE star seemingly teased a return to the ring after eight years today on social media. The star in question has not competed in a match since the April 4, 2016, edition of WWE RAW.

Wade Barrett currently serves as the color commentator on the red brand but was also a very accomplished professional wrestler back in the day. The veteran captured the Intercontinental Championship five times during his in-ring career and also won the King of the Ring in 2015.

Barrett took to social media today to react to the company sharing his career highlights. The former leader of Nexus corrected the post and noted that they were his career highlights so far, potentially teasing a return to the ring in the future.

"*Career highlights, thus far," he wrote.

Wade Barrett has gotten involved in the bitter rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre on RAW. The Scottish Warrior brutally attacked Punk earlier this month, and Barrett tried to put a stop to it. McIntyre recently warned Barrett that he would take him out if he got involved in his issues with Punk again.

Wrestling legend Vince Russo recently shared his thoughts on Drew McIntyre and Wade Barrett teasing a potential rivalry on RAW.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW, Russo criticized Barrett's performance in the storyline. The veteran stated that the color commentator needed to be "over the top," and the 44-year-old's performance didn't reach that level.

"I think a color commentator needs to be over the top. Listen, I have nothing against Wade Barrett. I think he's a solid talent. He's not over the top as a color commentator," Russo said. [From 42:56 onwards]

CM Punk will be appearing on tonight's WWE RAW for the first time since Drew McIntyre's attack on September 2. The 45-year-old defeated McIntyre in a Strap Match at Bash in Berlin. The two stars are set to battle once again in a Hell in a Cell match at WWE Bad Blood on October 5.
