A five-time WWE champion recently picked up his first win after over two years. The 34-year-old was ecstatic after the victory and spoke about how he felt to be back in NXT in a backstage exclusive.

WWE NXT hosted a loaded show on Tuesday night that had several entertaining matches. One such match at the Great American Bash saw Cedric Alexander face Brooks Jensen. Shawn Spears came out to watch the match closely.

Alexander returned to NXT earlier this month after a long run on the main roster, which didn’t help him much. Apart from his association with Hurt Business and a RAW Tag Team Championship win with Shelton Benjamin, the former Cruiserweight Champion failed to make a mark.

The latest episode of NXT allowed him to win his first singles match in over 980 days. It was a moment of joy for the 34-year-old WWE star who was once destined for greatness on 205 Live.

In a digital exclusive, Cedric Alexander was asked how he felt having Shawn Spears in Brooks Jensen’s corner for the match.

"Shawn Spears, me and him go back a long way. He’s had a very shady past, to say the least. But the difference between me and Shawn Spears, I’m here to help the young talent, compete with them. He’s here to use them for his own means and manipulate them to do whatever he wants them to do. As you can see, from Brooks Jensen, the angry young man that he is, Mr. Spears’ methods do not work," Alexander said.

Cedric was then asked about his return to NXT, and he compared it to going back to high school. He noted that it was an enjoyable experience for him to be back.

"It’s been an experience. It’s like going back to high school again. You see a bunch of new friends, see a bunch of old friends you haven’t seen in a long time, and it’s good to mix it up with the people every once in a while. But yeah, I’m enjoying my time here. I think I might be here for a long time." [H/T Fightful]

The rivalry between Shawn Spears and Cedric Alexander will likely pick up in the coming weeks. This could help both WWE stars get more attention.

WWE has brought many stars to NXT in recent years

It’s always good to get a fresh start whenever possible, and WWE has done well to give many stars just that in recent years.

Baron Corbin returned to have a good run in WWE NXT, where he teamed up with Bron Breakker to win the brand's Tag Team Championship. Meanwhile, Pete Dunne has also been lurking around on the brand while also featuring on RAW.

Cedric Alexander is the latest addition to the mix. He could reinvent himself on the brand and prove himself at the highest level before returning to the main roster for a better run.
