Vince McMahon played one of the most controversial onscreen characters on WWE TV for several years. However, this character drastically changed after former WWE writer Vince Russo left the company.
Russo was the latest to comment on Vince McMahon's onscreen character. Netflix recently released the Vince documentary, which provided an inside look into the life of one of the most controversial figures in pro wrestling.
During the documentary, one of the hot topics discussed was the difference between the Mr. McMahon character after Russo left. While the former chairman said there was a night and day difference, several others disagreed. The documentary also covered the way Vince's character was portrayed onscreen with respect to female talent. It covered Vince McMahon's onscreen affair with Trish Stratus and the way he treated several other women.
Speaking to Dr. Chris Featherstone on Sportskeeda's Writing with Russo, Vince Russo said he would've never put the women in an uncomfortable position on his dime. He also mentioned that these controversial segments happened after he left the company.
"On my dime, the Mr. McMahon story was blue-collar vs. white-collar. Bro, there were no women involved. There were no relationships involved. There was no making out with hot women involved, and I'll tell you why, Chris and you will understand this. I would have never in a million years written any of that stuff because I would've known if those girls felt uncomfortable. They couldn't say no."
Vince Russo continued to say that the women would've had to do all that stuff regardless of whether they were comfortable with it.
"They couldn't say no, so if they were uncomfortable, if they were married, if they had a boyfriend, if they had kids whatever the situation is, they would have had to do it and that's why I never would've booked that stuff. But as soon as I left, he's making out with this one and groping this one and kissing Trish Stratus, and you know, gr**ing Sable, and when I was watching that, I was like, 'Bro, is this the writer or is this Vince? Francine says she would've done the controversial Trish Stratus "bark like a dog" segment with Vince McMahon
One of the most controversial segments in WWE history took place before WrestleMania 17. Vince McMahon asked Trish Stratus to strip off her clothes, get on her hands and knees, and 'bark like a dog.' The segment gained traction after the recent Vince McMahon Netflix Documentary.
Speaking on her Eyes Up Here podcast, Francine said she would've done that segment with the former chairman as she understood it was intended to get heat on the Mr. McMahon character.
"It was a segment on television and it got the response that they wanted it to get. So, are you a feminist that is against this stuff? Like they said, turn the TV off. Don't watch. It's that simple. I'm a woman. I didn't take offense to it. I do think some things are in poor taste but that really doesn't bother me. It's degrading, yes, but it got the reaction that they wanted it to.
