Vince McMahon will be the subject of a six-part Netflix docuseries on September 25. Ahead of the documentary's release, former WWE writer Vince Russo gave his take on Natalya seemingly taking a dig at McMahon in a recent interview.

Natalya worked for McMahon for 15 years before the former WWE Chairman's son-in-law Triple H replaced him as the head of creative in 2022. During an appearance on Growing Up Von Erich, the 42-year-old praised Triple H and said it is "so cool to have a boss that's human." She also expressed her delight that she won a match in her hometown of Calgary on September 9.

On Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing With Russo, Russo understood why Natalya was happy to win in front of her hometown fans. However, he questioned why she appeared to subtly criticize McMahon in the process:

"Vince would love to beat people in their hometown," Russo said to host Dr. Chris Featherstone. "That was the big rib. Nobody ever went over in their hometown. That was the rib. And, bro, every time they [WWE stars] praise Triple H and new management, they're just shoveling dirt on Vince." [2:19 – 2:39]

Vince Russo on Vince McMahon's booking of Natalya

In January, former WWE employee Janel Grant accused Vince McMahon of sexual assault and trafficking. McMahon denied the allegations before resigning as a board member of WWE's parent company TKO.

Although Natalya sometimes struggled to stay in prominent storylines under McMahon's regime, Vince Russo thinks she should be grateful to her former boss:

"I like Natalya a lot but, bro, there's two sides to the coin because, bro, if Vince felt like he could have been making money with Natalya, she would have been in much more of a prominent spot. So, obviously, bro, the way he looked at it, he didn't think he could make money with Natalya. But, on the other side of the coin, bro, he kept her employed. He continued to pay her." Natalya won the Divas Championship and SmackDown Women's Championship when McMahon oversaw WWE's creative direction. She also held the Women's Tag Team Championship with Tamina.
