This week's Monday Night RAW kicked off with CM Punk addressing the crowd after a hard-fought victory over Drew McIntyre at Bad Blood 2024. The Second City Saint claimed he had not seen his wife, AJ Lee, in five weeks, and former WWE head writer Vince Russo was not too moved by the statement.

Punk and McIntyre put on one of the best Hell in a Cell match in years at Bad Blood, and unsurprisingly, the former AEW star was feeling the physical effects of the battle on RAW.

CM Punk said he was going away for a while to his family and revealed he had not met AJ Lee for a long time. While speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW podcast, Vince Russo called Punk an "absolute idiot" for the line about AJ Lee and argued it did nothing to improve the babyface character of the Best in the World.

Instead, Vince Russo felt Punk saying he could not find time to see his wife made him look worse, and the former WWE head writer was pretty blunt about how he shared his views:

"I know how we feel about our wives and our families, and I know how we do, but when CM Punk says I haven't seen my wife in five weeks, I'm sitting there saying, 'Then you're an effin idiot, bro.' You're an idiot. If you haven't seen your wife in five weeks because of this, you're an idiot. You are an absolute idiot. That doesn't make me look up to you, that makes me think you're an idiot. If you'd rather be doing this and not see your wife for five weeks, you're an idiot, bro. You are not over with me because of that." [41:12 - 41:48]

CM Punk had a staredown with Seth Rollins before the end of his opening segment, hinting that he would most likely face The Visionary after he returns from his short WWE hiatus.
