A young rising star picked up a controversial win at a WWE show. This win ended a 92-day title reign.
As the son of William Regal, Charlie Dempsey has a lot of responsibility to live up to. He started off his NXT career in promising fashion and has quickly risen to become one of the top stars on the brand. It didn't take him long to win his first title—the NXT Heritage Cup. However, he lost it to Tony D'Angelo.
Last week, Tony D'Angelo said he would offer the 27-year-old a rematch if Wren Sinclair could win her bout. Fortunately for Dempsey, Sinclair won her bout, earning him a title shot in the process.
Tonight on WWE NXT, Charlie finally faced off against Tony D. The match started in Tony's favor when he got the first pinfall in round 2. However, Charlie came back in round 4 and pinned Tony. Tony was on the middle rope in the fifth round when Wren Sinclair tripped him. This allowed Dempsey to take advantage and win, ending D'Angelo's 92-day reign.
This win makes Charlie Dempsey the second person after Noam Dar to win the NXT Heritage Cup twice.
