Walter's reign ended at the hands of Ilja Dragunov and then he soon was promoted to the main roster, and renamed Gunther. He soon defeated Ricochet for the Intercontinental Championship and the era of dominance began once again. Gunther held the title for 666 days, which is the longest in the title's history, before losing it to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania XL. He did not slow down after defeat, and immediately won the King of the Ring tournament in 2024.
