The WWE Universe just witnessed yet another great NXT Premium Live Event in the form of Heatwave. The Canadian event saw several major twists which also included the heartbreaking loss of a former champion. Notably, this defeat has sealed shut a big path for the 29-year-old which may now prompt him to take a drastic step.

Wes Lee suffered a shattering defeat at the hands of Oba Femi in the NXT North American Championship match. The former holder of the title found himself unable to capitalize on his chance for a second time since his injury hiatus. So, what’s on the road next for him? Here are four directions Lee can head into after the biggest loss of his career so far.

#4 Wes Lee to turn heel and sabotage Oba Femi

Wes Lee competed against Oba Femi to regain his NXT North American Championship which he had previously held for 269 days. However, Lee had been given this chance to compete on the condition that if he lost, he would never be able to contest for the title again as long as Oba held the gold.

While the 29-year-old agreed optimistically, the loss has now become the biggest defeat of his WWE career. Moreover, he was visibly shaken by the loss when an interviewer tried to speak to him backstage.

This could prompt Wes Lee to turn heel and vent all his anger on Oba Femi, who stripped him of significant future opportunities. Fans could see a rabid Lee interfere in Femi’s matches and try to sabotage his title defenses to rob him of the title as well.

#3 Leaving WWE to join TNA

WWE has currently teamed up with TNA to create several great pro wrestling moments together. The collaborative effort is seeing TNA stars come to NXT and the developmental brand’s stars go to TNA. However, while the exchange of wrestlers is temporary. Wes Lee may try to permanently flee WWE after losing at Heatwave for the second consecutive year.

This move will enable Lee to dominate another arena with no title restrictions since he will start his journey with a clean slate. But, the superstar still has a chance to compete in other big matches to redeem himself.

#2 Teaming up with some allies to win the NXT Heritage Cup

A few weeks earlier, Wes Lee was subjected to several vicious surprise attacks by the villainous stable of Gallus. Led by Joe Coffey, the faction targeted Lee because he was a contender for the NXT North American Title. Coming to his aid, Pete Dunne of New Catch Republic had extended a hand of alliance to Lee.

While Gallus may not target him since he can’t challenge Oba Femi anymore, Wes Lee could still team up with the New Catch Republic. With them, he can aim at another WWE honor, The Heritage Cup, and compete for it against Tony D’Angelo. Notably, Lee has already overcome The Don while defending his title. Thus, he stands a chance to do it once again.

#1 Setting his sight on the WWE NXT Championship

While NXT Heatwave saw Oba Femi retain his title, it also saw Trick Williams lose his WWE NXT Championship in a very unexpected way. While Williams was able to ‘Whoop That Trick,’ Ethan Page ended up eating the fruits of his labor by accidentally pinning Je’Von Evans. Thus, the men’s NXT Title now has a new champion.

A few weeks earlier, Gallus had attacked Trick Williams and Joe Coffey had said he wanted the NXT Championship. It is clear that he may try to get his hands on All Ego and bring his title run to a premature end.

But, Wes Lee can also insert himself in this run and sabotage Coffey’s chances to propel himself as a contender. Thus, he will be playing for a bigger prize than the North American Championship.

Which direction do you think Wes Lee should be taking after his unfortunate loss?
