As we approach the end of 2024, we are approaching the start of John Cena's retirement tour. The Cenation Leader has announced that he will compete in as many matches and premium live events as possible before his retirement at the end of 2025.

Thus, fans expect him to work the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, WrestleMania 41, SummerSlam, and other PLES and make regular appearances on RAW and SmackDown.

Many superstars have already shared their desire to wrestle John Cena one last time, but there is one superstar who has to be the 16-time World Champion's last opponent. And this one is the 2020 Royal Rumble winner Drew McIntyre, who is coming off a big-time rivalry with CM Punk.

Below are the reasons why The Scottish Warrior should be John Cena’s final WWE opponent:

It would help make Drew McIntyre the top heel in WWE

The Scottish Warrior did a great job as a heel in his rivalry with CM Punk, both in the ring and during the promos he cut on The Best in the World.

In a feud with Cena, Drew would need to do even more and bring his A-game. Given that John Cena is the top face in WWE, McIntyre would have the chance to emerge as the top heel in the business. To do so, he would have to tear Cena apart in the microphone, which has rarely happened, and beat him fair and square in the ring.

Drew McIntyre has made it clear that he doesn't like John Cena and wants to retire him. As Cena's last opponent, he would be able to fulfill his desire.

"If I have to drive management crazy, I’ll drive them crazy, I’ll drive John crazy. I’m gonna get that match, and I’ll tear him apart on the microphone, which not many people can do, in the ring, and send him packing into happy retirement, and hopefully Punk along with him," Drew McIntyre said at a Fanatics Event. If he beats Cena in his final WWE match, McIntyre will elevate his status as a megastar and use this accomplishment in future storylines as proof that he is one of the best in the business.

They have never faced each other one-on-one

During his appearance at Fanatics, Drew McIntyre revealed that he has never faced John Cena one-on-one (they have faced each other in tag team matches and Fatal-Four Way matches), which is another reason The Scottish Warrior wants this match to happen.

It would also be a dream match, and given that Cena is a top face and Drew a top heel, WWE could promote it as the perfect ending to The Cenation Leader's legendary career.
