WWE SummerSlam 2024 is one of the biggest annual wrestling events, but this year is set to be extra special. Not only will it have some firsts, but it will also mark some final moments.

WWE SummerSlam 2024 will take place at the Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio. As of this writing, five matches have already been announced for the premium live event with stars like Damian Priest, Cody Rhodes, Solo Sikoa, Rhea Ripley, and more to appear. However, other details in the show make it much more special.

For this list, we will look at some of the interesting facts about WWE SummerSlam 2024.

#3. First SummerSlam without a Roman Reigns match since 2021

At the 2020 PLE, Roman Reigns returned to television after five months of absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, he faced John Cena for the Universal Championship, the following year he faced Brock Lesnar for the Undisputed Title, and last year he defended the title against Jey Uso.

For the upcoming event, it's quite bittersweet to note that it will mark the first time in years since Roman Reigns won't have a featured match for the event. However, there has been speculation that he will return for the first time since WrestleMania 40, possibly during Cody Rhodes vs Solo Sikoa.

#2. Possibly the last one-night SummerSlam Premium Live Event

The inaugural Biggest Party of the Summer event took place in 1988 in New York and a lot has changed since then. However, one thing that remained the same is how most premium live events were only for one night, until 2020 when WrestleMania started to become a two-night affair.

For next year, reports indicate that The Biggest Party of the Summer will be joining The Show of Shows as a two-night affair. Although a location or date hasn't been confirmed yet, Fightful Select stated that it could start the tradition of hosting the event for two nights before SummerSlam 2026 in Minneapolis.

#1. CM Punk's first televised WWE singles match in a decade

CM Punk could be set for a match at WWE SummerSlam against Drew McIntyre if the former is cleared from his injury, which numerous reports have indicated that he has. As the feud between both men continues to heat up, there's another reason why the upcoming premium live event is special for The Second City Saint.

If CM Punk is cleared for next month's show, it will mark his first televised singles match in WWE for over a decade. The last one-on-one match he had on television for the Stamford-based promotion was against Billy Gunn in January 2014. Although Punk fought Dominik Mysterio in December 2024, it was for a house show. The other match Punk has competed in since returning was this year's Royal Rumble.
