CM Punk's return may lead to a Cena 'Heel' turn

CM

CM Punk is making a quick return to WWE as he faces Chris Jericho at ‘Payback’ pay-per-view in his hometown, Chicago. This is good news for all WWE hardcore fans as they will switch on their TV sets to see if Punk is ready to give another ‘pipe bomb’ ? Will he remain ‘A Paul Heyman Guy’? Will there be a twist to his character? Or, just maybe, CM Punk can be a reason to finally make Cena ‘Embrace The Hate’. This may be a daring step for the WWE creative team, but you never know. Let’s have a look on how it is possible.

It is widely expected that Punk will receive a massive ‘Face’ reaction in his hometown. But Punk will remain as a heel and continue his alignment with Paul Heyman. Paul will give more importance to Curtis Axel. This irks Punk and he demands that he should be the top ‘Heyman’s Guy’ as he has a 434 days WWE Championship legacy. But Paul will point out that he has no belt around his waist, so to continue to avail his services, Punk must win back the WWE tiltle. Axel is a newcomer and he need’s Paul’s mentorship more than Punk, as the latter is a proven wrestler.

This leads to Cena-Punk title match in Summer Slam. Cena won the match under controversial circumstances – something like Punk’s foot was on(or under) the rope during the count. The next day on Raw, Punk runs his mouth that once again he was hard done in a championship match, and invokes his rematch clause that night. But out comes Vince Mcmahon to tell him that he had numerous chances in the past against Rock to get back the WWE title, but he failed. It would be appropriate for some youngsters to have a go at the title. He has to go at the back of the line to wait for his turn. Strangely though, there was no response from Cena to make Vince change the decision. After the Chairman left the screen, Heyman finally dropped the ball, as he dished out at Punk for his failure and snapped all his ties with Punk. He declared that Axel was a contender for the WWE title and Punk may kiss goodbye to his chances of ever winning the title. From that day onwards, Punk takes a sabbatical from WWE.

On the night of Slammy Awards, the “Cena-Punk” match in Summer Slam wins the “Match of the Year” award. Out comes CM Punk to take the award, first time he is seen in WWE after that night. Just as he is about to speak, Vince Mcmahon comes storming towards Punk, snatching away the trophy. He calls out Cena to come and accept the prize. Then the WWE Chairman gives his own version of ‘pipe bomb’. He says that Punk was never a profitable asset to WWE. Even when he was the champion, WWE ratings were never sky-high. Cena was marketable. He has the looks, grace, physique to carry WWE for a long time. It is unthinkable to see Punk in ‘Make-a-Wish Foundation’ and other charity programs. Punk is the epitome of a weak, pathetic man. While Cena oozes confidance, dignity and respect, no kid looks at Punk as an idol. Vince takes a dig against Punk’s fans that they are supporters of a man who plays politics in the locker room and is a self-centered man, never thinking about the company but himself. All this while, Cena remains a mute spectator, never raising his voice against Vince. Punk is almost in tears and he promises to win the Royal Rumble and have a go at Cena(who is still the WWE champion since beating the Rock) at Wrestlemania 30.

Punk becomes a tweener, inclined more towards ‘Face’. He goes on to win the Royal Rumble. In the meanwhile, Cena continues his WWE title reign. Vince wants Cena to be in charity programs more often than previous, and he misses a lot of Raw shows due to these commmitments. Vince makes Punk wrestle in every show, so that he doesn’t remain fresh in his bout against Cena at Wrestlemania. Cena pays heed to every Vince’s decision, to make the crowd realise that something is fishy.

On the Wrestlemania night, towards the end of Cena-Punk fight, Vince, who is watching the match at ringside, suddenly enters the ring and hits Punk with a chair. This takes Cena by surprise, and he remains perplexed for a few minutes. Then, out of the blue, Cena gives a smirk smile, shakes Vince’s hands, and pins Punk. After the match, Triple h and Paul Heyman,as well, come and celebrate Cena’s victory. Thus, this creates a new ‘Corporate’ faction, with Cena finally in his long -awaited ‘Heel’ avatar. Maybe, with this, the PG era of WWE will come to an end.
