AJ Styles has been away from WWE television since suffering a defeat against Cody Rhodes at Clash at the Castle earlier this year. However, he is set to make his much-awaited return after four months on the upcoming edition of SmackDown. Upon his return, The Phenomenal One could make a shocking move and ambush a six-time champion.

The star in question is LA Knight. Styles has a bitter history with The Megastar, as they were involved in a heated feud earlier this year. Their rivalry culminated in a match at WrestleMania XL, with AJ suffering a loss. With the embers of resentment still smoldering within him, the former WWE Champion could hunt down the 41-year-old star upon his much-awaited return.

Besides, Knight currently holds the United States Championship, which gives the returning star even more reason to confront the defending champion. The desire to capture the coveted gold could allure AJ Styles to go after The Defiant One upon his return. The possibility of it happening is quite high, as he has a score to settle with LA Knight.

There has been a lack of credible opponents for the current United States Champion on SmackDown. With Styles being a Grand Slam Champion, he could pose a legitimate threat to Knight's title reign. Besides, their previous feud did not live up to expectations, and hence they could reignite their rivalry to deliver a blockbuster storyline.

The Phenomenal One starting a compelling feud with LA Knight on SmackDown could also add grandeur to the coveted United States Title.

Knight has held six championships in his pro wrestling career, including his runs in NWA, TNA, and WWE. Will AJ Styles prey upon the eight-time champion upon his return? It remains to be seen.

Could it be AJ Styles' last stint with WWE?

AJ Styles has been in WWE for over eight years and has had a phenomenal career. During his run with the company, he won several championships and delivered many high-profile matches. However, The Phenomenal One could be nearing the end of his career and it could be his final stint with WWE.

For a long time, Styles has been openly discussing his plans about retirement. It all caught fire earlier this year when the former WWE Champion revealed that he feels his time as a pro wrestler is nearing an end. The veteran superstar said that he is in his twilight years and his retirement is on the horizon

Moreover, his contract with WWE is also reportedly set to expire later this year. There has been no update as of now about any extension. Considering his words and his contract status, it is quite likely that this might very well be AJ Styles' final run with the Stamford-based promotion.

There are a few things AJ Styles needs to do in WWE before wrapping up his legendary career. It will be interesting to see how the SmackDown landscape undergoes a seismic shift upon his WWE return this week.
