Bron Breakker stood tall in his brawl with Ilja Dragunov on RAW and became the No.1 contender for the Intercontinental Championship. Dragunov did his best, but Breakker speared him off the ring, and Ilja was unable to continue his match.

Thus, Bron will now take on Sami Zayn at SummerSlam in a rematch for the Intercontinental Championship following his loss at Money in the Bank. The former NXT Champion will look to earn his first title on the main roster and recover from his loss at MITB.

With that in mind, we take a look at why Bron Breakker defeated Ilja Dragunov in the No.1 contenders match on RAW this week.

#3. It keeps alive the feud between Bron Breakker and Ilja Dragunov

Bron and Ilja have had a feud ever since they moved to the main roster during the WWE Draft in late April. The latter got involved in the Ricochet and Breakker rivalry and got a beatdown by Bron on multiple occasions.

Their feud re-ignited after Dragunov came to the aid of Sami Zayn, and it was clear that after what happened on Monday, Ilja would come back to get revenge on Breakker. Still, it remains to be seen whether Bron will win the Intercontinental Championship.

#2. It could help WWE continue to push the former NXT Champion

Bron Breakker has great potential and has shown it not only on NXT but also during his time on the main roster. Since moving to the main roster, he has dominated his opponents, as he wanted to prove that RAW General Manager Adam Pearce was wrong when he ignored him for the King of the Ring Tournament.

Since then, Bron Breakker has already got a title opportunity and is ready for his second title match. No matter what the outcome of the match will be, fans expect WWE to continue to push him, as he has built some momentum and has become a fan favorite, even though he is currently a heel.

#1. His feud with Sami Zayn is expected to come to an end at SummerSlam

Bron Breakker has started a feud with Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship. Even though he has dominated Zayn during the RAW episodes, Sami stood tall at Money in the Bank and retained his championship.

Now, the two stars will collide again, but this match is expected to end their feud, especially if Sami Zayn wins again. Should this happen, Breakker will need a new storyline to work on, or WWE will continue to push him and grant him a title match.

If Bron wins, fans should wait to see if Zayn will seek a third final match to reclaim the championship or move on from that rivalry.

The other scenario that could see the feud continue is if Ilja Dragunov interferes in the match to get revenge on Bron Breakker and cost him the title. In that way, the match would end in No Disqualification and Adam Pearce would then make it a Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Championship at one of the coming premium live events.
