The Toronto Maple Leafs take on the Montreal Canadiens for the second time in three days as both teams aim to get the engine up and running before the start of the NHL season.

Despite losing their first two preseason games, the Maple Leafs have managed to win their third and will look to continue that form. The Canadiens will try to bounce back from the defeat and get back to winning ways as they have looked solid so far.

The Maple Leafs displayed an incredible fight in their third preseason outing after losing their opening two games against the Ottawa Senators. Toronto scored twice against a Canadiens squad that had not conceded a goal in their opening two matchups.

John Tavares, Calle Jarnkrok, Jani Hakanpaa, Auston Matthews, Alex Steeves, Ben Danford and Dakota Mermis are all out of contention for the game against the Canadiens. The majority of these players will aim for a return when the season starts.

The Canadiens got off to a flying start scoring eight goals and conceding zero in their first two preseason games. Montreal is set to go on a three-day break before it play its next matchup.


Montreal Canadiens injuries

Kaiden Guhle, who went through an abdomen surgery on Sept. 18, is out of contention for the next few days. The Canadiens will be hopeful of his return at the earliest as the player returned to ice this Thursday for recovery.


Maple Leafs and Canadiens key players

John Tavares has been the star man for the Maple Leafs in the preseason so far, scoring one goal and providing three assists. Mitch Marner and William Nylander have looked impressive as well as they aim to cover for Austom Matthews for the weeks to come.

Alex-Barre Boulet has had a good impact upfront scoring one goal and providing two assists. Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield, the top two point contributors from last year, seem to be getting back in pace to ensure they start the season in the right momentum.
