Coming off a disappointing end to last season, The Edmonton Oilers and Leon Draisaitl are hopeful to bounce back and put their heart into the upcoming 2024-25 NHL Season.

Draisaitl, who is entering the last year of his current 8-year, $8.5 million/year contract, will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season. The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly already preparing a potential new deal for the 28-year-old star.

According to NHL Insider Jim Matheson, The Oilers are aiming to provide a contract ranging between $13 - $13.5 million/year to ensure the continued services of Leon Draisaitl for the years to come.

Jim Matheson took to X and said,

"If Oilers offer to Draisaitl starts with a 13, this deal is getting done, and maybe soon. I suspect he'll sign for about $13.5m a year."

Matheson was also quick to address the rumors about Draisaitl potentially choosing to take his talents elsewhere.

"All this talk about him wanting to be top dog somewhere else? Why? The Oilers are closer to the Cup than just about any other contender." said Matheson.

Despite being 3-0 down after the first three games of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers, the Oilers took it to Game Seven and gave it all they had, however, they ended up short of winning the title.

Oilers GM hints at Leon Draisaitl contract extension, wishes player "to be an Oiler for life"

Edmonton Oilers new GM Stan Bowman has made it public regarding his intention to extend Draisaitl and mentioned that he wants him to be with the team until the end of his career.

According to Oilers reporter Preston Hodgkinson, Stan Bowman is on board with the idea of having the star forward in Edmonton for many years to come.

"Leon is a star player and he's top priority for me. I want Leon to be an Oiler for life."

Leon Draisaitl had a productive 2023-24 season as he contributed 137 points, including 31 in the playoffs, helping lead the Oilers to their first Stanley Cup Finals appearance since 2006.

The team's supporters are hopeful to get the extension done soon as any sort of rumors would only be a distraction to an important season ahead for the Edmonton Oilers.
