The Edmonton Oilers are facing critical decisions as they work on finalizing deals for their restricted free agents Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg.

NHL Insider Bob Stauffer has revealed that both players are expected to sign bridge deals in the range of $2.2 to $2.3 million for a two-season term soon (via NHL Trade Rumors):

"General consensus is restricted free-agent Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg will sign bridge deals in the $2.2-$2.3 million total range for two seasons," Stauffer said.

However, before these signings can occur, General Manager Stan Bowman and the Oilers' front office need to address their salary cap situation. According to Puckpedia, the club is currently slightly over the salary cap by about $350,000.

To become cap compliant, the Oilers are reportedly exploring various options, including potentially trading players like Cody Ceci with his $3.25 million cap hit or Brett Kulak with his 42.75 million salary.

These moves are crucial for the Oilers to manage their finances effectively and secure the necessary flexibility to finalize Holloway and Broberg's contracts.

Philip Broberg was drafted No. 8 overall by the Oilers in the 2019 NHL draft. The Swedish defenseman has notched up 13 points through two goals and 11 assists in 81 career games so far. In the playoffs, he has three points in 20 games.

Meanwhile, Dylan Holloway was drafted No. 14 overall by the Oilers in the 2020 draft. He has primarily been a middle-six winger for the team. The center has accumulated 18 points over nine goals and as many assists in 89 career games.

In the playoffs, Holloway has racked up seven points (two goals and five assists) in 26 games.

Bob Stauffer speculates Draisaitl to sign a long-term deal with Edmonton Oilers

On Monday nights' "Oiners Now" radio show, Stauffer shared intriguing insights from a conversation he had with one of Draisaitl's agents.

Stauffer speculated that the upcoming deal for the German forward is likely to span seven or eight years, with strong indications pointing towards an eight-year agreement:

“It’s going to be a seven or eight-year deal, it’s probably going to be an eight-year deal, realistically,” Stauffer said. “My belief is that it’s going to be an eight-year deal.”

The details of Leon Draisaitl's upcoming contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers are still uncertain and it remains to be seen how things progress in the coming days or weeks.
