Matthew and Brady Tkachuk's sibling rivalry on full display in backyard golf showdown

Matthew and Brady Tkachuk are two top hockey players, but they are also brothers. The two grew up together, which can sometimes lead to a little sibling rivalry. That was on full display in a clip from the Faceoff: Inside the NHL docuseries that debuted on Prime Video at the beginning of the regular season.

The two brothers took their signature rivalry and athletic ability to a new sport, golf. With a putting green set up outside their home, they began competing with one another. Naturally, this led to some playful arguments.

They argued over where the putt was and where it needed to go, laughing at one another. Brady was up and knocked a putt that appeared to be off just a bit. It lipped around the edge of the cup before falling in. It prompted cheers from one Tkachuk and groaning laughter from the other.

After, Brady said:

"It was just competitive. You know, as kids, we weren't as lovey-dovey with each other. It was almost like we had a built-in opponent. Maybe the older sibling takes it easy, maybe gives a win once in a while, but not Matthew. He wanted to win every single time we played."

Now, the brothers occasionally get to compete at the highest level whenever the Ottawa Senators (Brady's team) and the Florida Panthers (Matthew's team) face off. They are each the captain.

Matthew Tkachuk sends message for Johnny Gaudreau

Matthew Tkachuk wouldn't play in the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Instead, he offered up a message for the fans and the family of Johnny Gaudreau, the former Blue Jackets star and friend who was killed in the offseason.

“Johnny was a huge part of the hockey community but to me he was much more than that," he said via NHL. "A great friend, teammate, and family man. Not a day goes by without me thinking about Johnny and Matthew. The biggest thing I’m going to miss about tonight is not being able to see Meredith, Noa, little Johnny, Guy and Jane. Would love to give them all big hugs! Johnny will be my teammate forever.”

Gaudreau was more than a friend to Tkachuk, who is close to his brother, Brady. Gaudreau and his brother were riding bikes when they were struck and killed by a car.
