During the 2024 NHL Global Series opener between the Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils on Friday, October 4, in Prague, Czechia, a special tribute honored Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew. Before the game, a video tribute highlighted the brothers' careers and achievements.

Following this, a 13-second moment of silence was observed in their honor. B/R Open Ice shared the tribute on X, writing:

"A tribute to Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau was played and a 13 second moment of silence was observed before today's Global Series game in honor of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau."

Soon, fans started reacting emotionally to the Gaudreau brother's passing.

"This still doesn't feel real to me. They should be here, with us," one fan said.

Columbus Blue Jackets star player Johnny Gaudreau, 31, and his brother Matthew, 29, died in a bike accident on August 29. The crash happened in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, near their hometown. They were there to be groomsmen at their sister’s wedding.

The brothers were biking when a driver, suspected of being under the influence, tried to pass another car and hit them. The driver, Sean M. Higgins, was arrested and charged with two counts of death by auto.

Johnny leaves behind his wife, Meredith, two children and one unborn child. Matthew is also survived by his wife, Madeline, who is expecting a baby.
