The Washington Capitals fell to the Columbus Blue Jackets 8-4 on Friday night in a preseason matchup at Capital One Arena. With many fringe roster players suiting up, the Caps dropped to 1-3-0 in exhibition play.

Fans took to social media to react to the lopsided loss, with one tweeting:

"Thank God this isn't our season roster."

Another fan wrote,

"Great effort. I’m sure the few fans that went are happy with the ROI on those tickets. What an embarrassment. Give everyone refund. Disgusting effort by everyone"

Here are some fan reactions:

"Lindgren 4 break away goals, but yeah didn’t look sharp on any of them. It’s preseason but still that’s atrocious as a team" one fan wrote on X.
"It’s pre season. I paid $70 for tickets 4 rows behind our bench. It was great. Not the result we wanted but still lots to look forward to this season" another fan wrote.
"get these old ass men off our fucking team, tired of the caps being gassed after 30 mins and giving up" a user commented.
"How’s it feel losing to the only notable sports franchise to ever exist?" another user wrote.

While stars Alex Ovechkin and Dylan Strome found the back of the net along with prospects Vrana and Jakob Chychrun, the makeshift defensive corps struggled for the Washington Capitals.

Adam Fantilli recorded a hat trick for Columbus, who also got goals from James Malatesta, Mathieu Olivier, Mikael Pyyhtia and two empty-netters to make it 8-4 final.

Washington Capitals HC Spencer Carbery on 8-4 loss against Blue Jackets

Despite a promising start, the Capitals' game slid in the second period, leading to a lopsided loss. After the game, Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery discussed the team's performance.

"I liked our game early on," Carbery said. "They score on a couple of breakdowns and a couple of misreads, but overall I was happy with the way we were playing. The second period got away from us though. We got real sloppy and our play just got really loose."

Goaltender Charlie Lindgren had a particularly challenging outing, managing only 19 saves on 25 shots. Meanwhile, Columbus split goaltending duties between Daniil Tarasov and Pavel Cajan.
