Ottawa Senators player Claude Giroux got a speeding ticket from the night his Land Rover was stolen. His wife, Ryanne Giroux, shared this on Instagram today.

"@28cgiroux receiving a speeding ticket in the mail from the night his car was stolen," Ryanne Giroux wrote.

The car was taken on Sept. 24 night, and he couldn't contact Ottawa Police until 10 a.m. the next morning. Ryanne posted on social media asking for advice.

"Good morning Ottawa! @28CGiroux ’s car was stolen last night and is currently actively driving… unable to get ahold of @OttawaPolice until 10am… looking for other suggestions/to hear from other people in Ontario who have sadly had to deal with this recently 😵‍💫."

Ottawa Police responded to her post 37 minutes later, advising her to call 911 for crimes in progress.

"We’re sorry to hear this. With any crime in progress, call 911 at the time of the incident. We understand an officer has been dispatched."

Ryanne thanked people for their support but didn't expect to recover the car. Claude Giroux expressed his frustration with a face-palm emoji. This event adds to concerns about increasing car thefts in Ottawa and Ontario.

A similar incident happened in 2022 with Toronto Maple Leafs player Mitch Marner, whose car was stolen at gunpoint. Though suspects were arrested, the charges were later dropped.

Claude Giroux's Senators have lost yet another game

Jacob Markstrom made 30 saves as the New Jersey Devils beat the Ottawa Senators 3-1 on Thursday. He nearly had a shutout, but Brady Tkachuk scored late on a power play at 18:55.

Claude Giroux assisted on the goal, which came with Ottawa’s net empty. Giroux has scored two points in four regular season games for the Senators.

“It feels good,” Markstrom said per NHL.com. “I think the more games we play together, the better chemistry I feel like we’re having, especially me with the [defensemen] and all that stuff. ... The guys made it easy for me today.”

Paul Cotter, Erik Haula and Nathan Bastian scored for the Devils. Ottawa goalie Anton Forsberg made 32 saves, but the Senators couldn’t capitalize on their chances.

Despite a late push, the Senators couldn't overcome the Devils’ early lead. The Devils improved to 5-2-0, while the Senators fell to 2-2-0.
