The Boston Bruins are set for their second preseason game of the 2024 NHL season on Tuesday. Boston hosts the Washington Capitals at 7 p.m. ET.

The Bruins are coming off a 3-2 home loss to the New York Rangers in their preseason debut in a game that Boston didn't play many of their starters.

After the game, coach Jim Montgomery said the early preseason games likely will see players vying for a roster spot, and not their usual starters.

“I really liked our second period. I thought we were really on the forecheck. We played north well, we held on to pucks and made a lot of plays, especially the (Mark) Kastelic line and the (Jaxon) Nelson line,” said Montgomery, via Boston Herald. “I thought D-men were very active, keeping pucks in the offensive zone. I thought in the second period we had a lot of finding the middle of the ice on breakouts coming out of the D-zone, which allowed us to get offensive zone time.”

Heading into Boston's second preseason game, here is a look at the Bruins' predicted lineup.

Predicted Bruins lineup tonight

Forwards

  • Cole Koepke - Matthew Poitras - Justin Brazeau
  • Max Jones - Patrick Brown - Mark Kastelic
  • Riley Tufte - Jaxon Nelson - Fabian Lysell
  • Jeffrey Viel - Trevor Kuntar - Riley Duran

If Montgomery stays true to his word and uses the early preseason games as a chance to see players vying for a roster spot, the lineup could look like this.

It appears Montgomery will want to get his regular forwards in the lineup in the final few preseason games to get them ready for the start of the season.

Defensemen

  • Michael Callahan - Alec Regula
  • Mason Lohrei - Drew Bavaro
  • Frederic Brunet - Ryan Mast

Like the forward group, the usual starters of Charlie McAvoy, Nikita Zadarov, Parker Wortherspoon, and Hampus Lindholm won't play on Tuesday.

Goalies

  • Joonas Korpisalo
  • Brandon Bussi

Michael DiPietro started Boston's first preseason game so it's likely either Joonas Korpisalo or Brandon Bussi will get the start on Tuesday.
