Tensions boiled over at Buffalo Sabres practice on Monday morning as teammates Rasmus Dahlin and Peyton Krebs got into a physical altercation.

The incident occurred during a drill when Dahlin delivered a hip check on Krebs that the young forward took exception to. Krebs immediately dropped his gloves and went after Dahlin, sparking a scrum between the two players that required teammates to jump in and break it up.

The fight has garnered reaction from analyst Paul Bissonnette, who made his thoughts clear on X.

Bissonnette acknowledged that many former players are unhappy with Dahlin for going low on his teammate in practice. However, he also pointed out that the intensity could provide a much-needed spark for the struggling Sabres squad.

“Lots of former players not happy with Dahlin going a little low on Krebs here in practice regardless if Krebs got Dahlin with a high stick prior in the drill,” Bissonnette said. “All I know is that practice habits & intensity can transfer over to games & Sabres desperately need a spark of some sort.”

The incident comes after Buffalo’s first win of the season, Saturday's 5-2 victory over the Panthers. Prior to that, the team started 0-3 while scoring just three total goals.

After the altercation, Krebs appeared to try and smooth things over by posting a photo on Instagram of him and Dahlin celebrating a goal together earlier in the season.

“Hugging my best friend when we score @rasmusdahlinn,” his caption read.

The Sabres next take on the Penguins in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.

Buffalo Sabres HC Lindy Ruff on Rasmus Dahlin and Peyton Krebs fight

Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff commented on the fight between defenseman Rasmus Dahlin and forward Peyton Krebs during practice.

Ruff downplayed the skirmish, saying:

"Boys will be boys...I wouldn't read too much into that. We want competitive practices so I think every now and then the emotions will run a little bit high but that's a good place to be." (As per WIVB News 4)

After practice, Dahlin expressed regret over the incident, telling reporters:

"Stuff happens out there and I regret it now. I apologized, it's all good out there."

Krebs also spoke about the scuffle, explaining:

"I think I was driving to the net and got him in the face. He's a passionate guy and that's why we love him, it's all good."

Ruff reiterated that he wants his players to compete hard in practice and not read too much into these types of flare-ups.
