Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand weighs in on Jeremy Swayman contract talks

As the regular season approaches, the Boston Bruins still haven't resolved their contract discussions with goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman. It has become the talk of a team that has genuine championship aspirations this year, and even captain Brad Marchand has noticed it.

"It’s a big topic of conversation with the fans and the media, and this is part of the business, and we all are really looking forward to when it does get done and the process is over and he is back with the group," Marchand said via The Hockey News.
"But that’s obviously out of our hands and we don’t get involved in any of that. So it’ll be great when everything gets kind of squared away."

Swayman is a key part of the Bruins roster, so it's not surprising Marchand wants to see some resolution. It can be like a cloud hanging over a team when a key player's future is up in the air.

Marchand also seems to be in the extension camp. Based on his comments, he would like to see Swayman signed with the Bruins, which presumably means a pretty lengthy and lucrative contract.

Bruins coach addresses Jeremy Swayman's contract situation

Bruins coach Jim Montgomery didn't add much to the discussion of when Jeremy Swayman would get his new contract. He deferred to the team's GM, but he was also asked about how this impacts ice time leading up to the regular season.

Via the Boston Globe, he said:

“We have the [Black and Gold] scrimmage, where we’ll get to see almost every goalie in camp, and then we have the extra exhibition game [against the Kings in Quebec City Oct. 3], so I think we’re going to get enough opportunity for every goalie to show us what he can do as a Bruin.”

For now, Swayman remains in search of a new deal. It reportedly isn't going to change much going into the NHL preseason if that stays true.
