Johnny Gaudreau, a forward for the Columbus Blue Jackets, and his brother Matthew died in a biking accident on August 29, 2024. The accident happened in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, where they were in town for a family wedding. They were struck by a car driven by a suspected drunk driver Sean M. Higgins, who is currently facing charges of two counts of death.

Johnny’s sister-in-law, Lily, shared a heartfelt post on social media. In her tribute, she expressed deep love and sadness. She wrote:

"I love you, John. You are and always will be my amazing brother. Cannot put into words how grateful I am to have spent the last year living with you. Best decision I’ve ever made. Nothing I wouldn’t do to have one more day of baking you cookies, watching a crime documentary, and having a sauna jam sesh together."

"The absolute best dad in the world. So caring and loving. The best partner to go through parenthood with. John never missed a single appointment. Was the best at putting the baby to sleep and the Apple of Noa’s eye. I love how much she looks like him. We are going to make you proud. We love you so so so much daddy," she captioned the post.
