Kent Johnson signed 3-year, $5.4 million deal with Blue Jackets

Kent Johnson, a 21-year-old forward, signed a three-year contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. The deal is worth $5.4 million and averages $1.8 million per year.

Don Waddell, the Blue Jackets' general manager, is excited about Johnson’s future.

“Kent Johnson is an exciting young player with tremendous upside, and we are happy that he will continue to grow and develop as a Blue Jacket,” Waddell said (via NHL.com). “He is just beginning to scratch the surface of what he can be as a player, and we believe he will be a very important part of our hockey club moving forward.”

Johnson, the fifth overall pick by the Blue Jackets in the 2021 NHL draft, had 16 points last season. He scored six goals and added 10 assists in 42 games. His season ended early due to shoulder surgery, which sidelined him after February. So far, Johnson has 22 goals, 37 assists and 59 points in 130 games.

Owen Power got engaged to Victoria Beara

Owen Power, the 21-year-old defenseman for the Buffalo Sabres, got engaged to his fiancée, Victoria Beara, and they announced it on Instagram on July 10.

They got engaged at a scenic waterfront location. They celebrated in matching black outfits, with Power wearing Nikes and Beara in Adidas.

"God’s gift of forever," Beara captioned the post.

Last season, Power had six goals and 27 assists for 33 points in 76 games for the Sabres.
