During the second game of the NHL regular season, Brenden Dillon came in seemingly late to deliver a huge hit on JJ Peterka. It prompted a tilt with Alex Tuch and stirred some strong reactions among NHL fans. While Hockey can be a violent sport, incidents that involve perceived rule violations often give fans who like the brutality a pause.

"The Spittin' Chiclets podcast," one of the top hockey podcasts on the market, posted the clip and said that the sport is "so back." It seemed celebratory in nature, depicting what many fans called a late hit and the subsequent fight.

"Celebrating a dude putting their shoulder through another player’s face?" one fan said.
"Sabres taking Ls on the scoreboard and in the ring too," another fan said.

Here are some more reactions from fans.

"Why are we celebrating cheap hits and injuring players," another fan said.
"Players podcast celebrating a high headshot," one fan said.

In the clip, Peterka seemed to be not looking when Dillon delivered a crushing blow. He fell to the ice immediately and whistles blew as Tuch dropped his gloves and confronted Dillon.

The two traded minor blows and skated in a circle before Dillon got Tuch on the ground. At that point, the referees stepped in to stop things and restore order to the game.

JJ Peterka, Buffalo Sabres attempting to reverse sting of opening loss

JJ Peterka and the Buffalo Sabres had a rough go in the opener in Prague last night. They dropped the first game of the NHL season to the New Jersey Devils 4-1. Peterka was -2 for the night and spent almost 20 minutes on the ice.

Today, while Peterka may not be having a good day thanks to the brutal hit above, the Sabres are looking to avenge that loss. The Devils have come out chippy, but things were handled.

As it stands at the time of writing, neither team had scored almost at the end of the first period. It may not be better, but it's not worse than yesterday's outing for the Sabres so far.
