NHL fans debate over which side is most likely to break their playoff drought next season

Several teams, including the Detroit Red Wings, are experiencing playoff droughts in the National Hockey League. This is common in all sports as it can be difficult to get into the playoffs, especially for a team that's been bad for a while. More than a couple of teams fit into that description heading into the upcoming season.

However, no matter how long it's been since a team last made the playoffs, every season is a new chance to end that drought. Every team has a certain chance of making it to postseason play at the beginning of every year, and this time is no different.

The four most notable clubs looking to end droughts are the Philadelphia Flyers, Detroit Red Wings, Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres. But there is no consensus among fans of these teams.

"Easy Detroit. Who’s destiny is to be the 2021-2022 New York Rangers," one tweeted.
"The wings will make it in as the first wild card, Tampa will be the 2nd wild card, the sens can’t start good to save their lives and Buffalo is Buffalo they don’t know how to play defense and the flyers are in rebuild mode," another tweeted.
"Flyers were 1 point away and just added a superstar winger. Seems pretty obvious to me," one tweeted.
"Most probably Ottawa with the Ullmark transaction, defensive upgrades and their core entering their prime," another tweeted.

Most teams got mentioned a few times, meaning NHL fans don't know who to pick as a 2024-2025 playoff team. The season hasn't begun yet, so all four have as much hope as the rest in theory.

Philadelphia Flyers nearly made NHL postseason in 2023

If there's a logical answer to the above-posed question, it's likely the Philadelphia Flyers. Logic often flies out the window regarding sports, but some things make sense.

The Flyers were a point away from being a playoff team last year. They were one behind the Pittsburgh Penguins, while the other three clubs mentioned weren't so close. Philly added Matvei Michkov and improved in many areas, so they are perhaps the most sensible answer to this question.
