NHL legend Dominik Hašek is running for the Senate in Czechia as part of the 2024 election. While the race is still in the preliminary stages, the top two candidates will have a chance to advance to the second round of voting for the Senate seat. The news caught the attention of NHL fans, who noticed that Hašek is currently in third place.

According to a screenshot on Reddit, Helena Válková is in first place with 33.04% of the votes, while Zdeněk Hraba is in second place with 31.55% of the votes. Hašek isn't out of the race yet; however, he is trailing behind considerably with just 14.53% of the votes.

The second round of voting takes place on Saturday, Sept. 21, where the country will vote on its representatives for this election cycle. After the news was brought to the attention of the NHL community, fans were quick to weigh in.

"Countries' borders are gonna be on lock if he gains power, cause ya know... He's a brick wall" - One wrote
"He's a perfect candidate given that he already has experience being a Senator." - Another added
"Lowest percentage I’ve ever seen associated with Hasek" - One joked

Others also weighed in on the situation:

"If you listen to a lot of what he had to say publicly, especially post Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, it was obvious he was making moves to get into national politics - not too surprised, tbh" - One wrote
"He's legitimately an incredibly intelligent person. Lived through Soviet invasion and occupation. Very cool guy. Occasionally calls out Ovechkin and his support for Putin" - One added
"Wow I was sure that was gonna be someone with the same name" - One wrote

Dominik Hašek criticizes Pavel Datsyuk's Hall of Fame induction given political climate

As many fans were quick to point out in response to Dominik Hašek's political campaign, in recent years the NHL legend has been vocal about his views on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

When it was announced that Hašek's former teammate, Pavel Datsyuk, was finally set to enter the Hall of Fame, Hašek questioned the move given the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

While he praised Datsyuk for his remarkable career in the NHL, which saw him win two Stanley Cups, Dominik Hašek was critical.

"With his excellent performances and everything he has done for hockey, Pavel undoubtedly deserves a place in the HHOF," he said via DetroitSportsNation. "I don’t know if Pavel plans to condemn the Russian war in the coming months and, above all, if he is able to do it.
"However, it must be said that if he doesn’t, his appearance at the award ceremony (since he is a Russian citizen) will be a huge advertisement for the Russian war and Russian crimes.”

Last year, Hašek was critical of the NHL for allowing Alex Ovechkin's son, Sergei Ovechkin, to make an appearance at the 2023 NHL Skills Competition. Hašek believed that the move was in poor taste given the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Given how vocal Dominik Hasek has been regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, it doesn't seem all that surprising that he has gotten involved in local politics in Czechia. Despite that, with only the top two candidates advancing to the next round, the NHL legend appears to be facing an uphill battle.
