On Friday, NHL fans on Reddit reacted strongly to The Athletic’s goaltending rankings. The rankings show each team's current and future goaltending prospects and cap space.

Nashville, Dallas, and Buffalo are top-ranked for current goaltending. For future outlooks, Nashville, Buffalo and Montreal lead.

NHL fans discussed the rankings and reacted to it on Reddit.

"Fully agreed on the future but having the Isles 8th currently is crazy to me," one fan wrote.

"Why the Canucks future is low? Demko is young and there is Silovs," another fan wrote.

"Wow…Detroit is worst currently, but best future?! Cossa can’t come soon enough," one reddit user wrote.

Take a look at some more reactions from NHL fans on Reddit.

"I usually like The Athletic pieces, but this ranking is really pointless. Weighing current and future goalies equally makes no sense to me. You can only play one goalie at a time, so if your team is clearly set for the next 10 years, why would future prospects even matter? On top of that, projecting goalies is borderline impossible," one fan wrote.
"This is stupid as shit. NO one knows the future of these prospects. Hell you guys remember Matt Murray? The whole thing is cap, not just the one column," a fan wrote.
"Soo, apparently in the future, Winnipeg at 31st is last place in the league while San Jose and Tampa are tied for 30th? Mmm kay," another fan wrote.

NHL Goaltending Outlook: Top Teams and Key Players for 2024

The NHL's goalie scene shows both current strength and future promise. Nashville's Predators lead with their top duo: Juuse Saros and Yaroslav Askarov. Saros stands as a top-tier goalie, while Askarov shows promise. This strong pair keeps Nashville in the game. Yet, Saros' next contract might squeeze the team's salary cap.

The Dallas Stars have a good thing going with Jake Oettinger, a top young goalie. His skill and low pay are big pluses. But the Stars lack depth in goalie prospects. Even though Oettinger's play is a huge win, they need to fix this gap for the long run.

Buffalo's goalie future looks bright. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen keeps getting better, and Devon Levi has loads of potential. This pair has the Sabres on the rise. They'll need to handle Luukkonen's new deal with care. The Sabres also have a solid group of prospects, which bodes well for their goalie situation.

The Vancouver Canucks face a mixed bag. Thatcher Demko's injury history raises eyebrows, but the team has a strong goalie duo and rising stars like Arturs Silovs. Despite these good points, the Canucks must guide their young goalies' growth to tap into their full future potential.
