Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand is recovering from offseason surgeries, but he was seen skating at practice recently. Marchand was a full participant in practice on Wednesday.

Marchand skated on Tuesday in a non-contact jersey. However, on Wednesday, Marchand was wearing a normal jersey and was a full participant, which is a good sign ahead of the regular season.

Brad Marchand had three surgeries this offseason. The forward had surgery on his elbow for a torn tendon, his groin to address a sports hernia, and his abdominal area, also for a sports hernia.

“I did my arm last summer, was kind of playing with it throughout the year,” Marchand said of when the injuries occurred, via NHL.com. “I decided if it continued to aggravate in the summer that I would get it done. The other two I did [with] a month left in the season. They kept bugging me into the summer, so I figured I’d get them taken care of.”

Marchand recorded 29 goals and 38 assists for 67 points in 82 games last season. The Bruins captain is entering the final season of his eight-year, $49 million contract.

The Bruins open their 2024-25 NHL season on the road, on October 8, against the Florida Panthers.

Brad Marchand won't comment on contract status

Brad Marchand is the face of the Boston Bruins as he is the team's captain. But, with Marchand entering the final year of his deal, the forward said he won't comment on his contract throughout the year.

“I’m going to say this now and kind of leave it at that, but I won’t ever talk about contract stuff in the media,” Marchand said. “I saw a report come out the other day -- I think it was the Hockey News, I don’t know where he’s getting his information -- but it wasn’t from our side. We’re not going to talk about it.
“Whatever goes on will stay internal between (general manager Don Sweeney) and our group. I’m going to leave it at that. I think there’s enough respect between the two sides that we can deal with it. We’ll leave it at that.”

Marchand has played his entire 15-year NHL career with the Bruins. In his career, Boston has skated in 1,029 games, recording 401 goals and 528 assists for 929 points.
