Former NHL player Anson Carter recalled a hilarious story about Evgeni Malkin's early days in North America on the NHL on TNT Face Off show.

Carter, known by his nickname "Ace," remembered when Malkin first arrived from Russia to stay with teammate before joining the Pittsburgh Penguins. Carter explained:

"Several years afterwards they got 'Geno' out of Russia, and he came to stay at Breeza's house. So, Breeza was like 'hey you gotta take care of him for the night.' Gino couldn't even speak English. He said 'we live next door to each other' and I say 'what do you wanna do?' He goes 'I like girls'.

Amused but understanding, Carter told him:

“Okay. So, I say okay. We're going out tonight. So, brought him up to, went out that night, brought him back to Breeza's house. Only English he could speak was 'I like girls'.

Malkin scored his 500th career NHL goal for the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night in a 6-5 overtime win against the Buffalo Sabres. The historic tally makes him the 48th player in league history to reach 500 goals. Malkin also contributed three assists in the victory over Buffalo.

Teammate Sidney Crosby scored the game-winning overtime goal and added two assists of his own to surpass 1,600 career NHL points.

Veteran center Evgeni Malkin joined an exclusive club in league history to hit the 500-goal mark, with the likes of Washington's Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby and Predators' Steven Stamkos.

“First, those are great names. Second, it’s like, not bad myself,” Malkin said post-game.“I’m trying to do my best. When you play against Ovechkin, you’re trying to be better. Same, like, we play with Sid, same team. But I’m trying to do my best. He’s probably looking to me.
“I push to him (Sidney Crosby). He push to me. We try to help each other. ... Finally, I score. Now, I’m relaxed. Not think too much. Sleep better. Just play hockey.”

Evgeni Malkin leads the NHL with 11 points through the first five games of the 2024-25 season.
