Sania Mirza-Martina Hingis duo through to Miami Open final

The Sania Mirza-Martina Hingis pair seems to be on course to win their second tour title after they booked a berth in the final of the Miami Open.

Following their spectacular showing at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells last month, where the Sania Mirza-Martina Hingis pair clinched the title, the Indo-Swiss pair looks all set to add another piece of silverware to their luggage.

The pair overcame Timea Babos and Kristina MLadenovic in the semi-final in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 to set up the final against Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.

The Mirza-Hingis pair will be facing Makarova-Vesnina for the second time in as many months, after having defeated the latter in the final at Indian Wells. The second seeded pair of Makarova and Vesnina faced little trouble as they sailed past Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka in straight sets, 6-4,6-2.

The duo brushed aside an early setback, when they trailed their opponent 0-2, before bouncing back strongly to win 12 of their next 16 games.

Reflecting on the victory, Hingis said – “It was a great match. I'd never played this team before, and I know it was a good test for us in our second tournament together - it's nice to get a tough team like that to play against.”

Sania, speaking on the success that her pairing with Hingis has enjoyed, said, "We're still learning to play with each other, so it's good to play against a tough team like that. They're really good. We were down a break in the first set, so we're happy we were able to get it back and win the first set, 6-2. We're just happy to be in another final now.”

Sania stressed on the importance of staying focused in the final while adding that big names alone did not ensure victories.

"The same as we did last week!" Mirza said. "We just have to keep focused and fight for every point. I keep saying this - names don't win you matches, neither does any result. Every day is a different day."

Their confident display in the Miami Open so far and their recent victory against the Makarova-Vesnina pair means that the top seeded Mirza-Hingis duo will enter the final as the favourite.
